Stop Wasting Your Time

In his first letter to Timothy, Paul began by addressing this issue. He wrote in verses 3-7,

As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.

What we see these days with the many controversial topics and endless arguments isn't new, and Paul's words of wisdom to Timothy are very much applicable today.

1. Pay attention to the doctrines being taught.

Although it is very important and helpful to have spiritual leaders, we must also learn to seek God and study His word ourselves, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in discernment. Any teachings that contradict God's Word... well, I'll leave that to you to judge.

2. Do not waste time on myths, conspiracy theories, and speculations

While they may be interesting to delve into, such things are simply a waste of time that could be spent more productively studying God's Word or even catching up on sleep. Not only that, but they can also be directly harmful to one's faith by instilling unnecessary doubt and confusion.

3. Be careful of the sources

A lot of the arguments and claims turn out to be all fluff once you dig a little. Additionally, just like Paul said, some of these things arise purely from a lack of understanding, which brings us back to the earlier point of knowing God's word personally.

None of this is to say that curiosity, questioning, or sincere seeking is unwelcome, but rather to beware of "vain discussion."

That's all for today, peace and love of Christ be with you!
