Progress through Perfection

Yes, you read the title right. Yes, I wrote the title right.
As Christians, God desires and expects progress in our spiritual life, and although He ultimately wants us to realize perfection, He understands that it won’t come suddenly. Oddly, the secret to achieving this oh-so-desired progress is aiming for perfection, so that even though we fall short of our target, we are a bit closer to it. There’s a saying, even though I can’t remember it verbatim, that if you aim for the branches, you'll land on the ground. If you aim for the treetop, you'll land on a branch. If you aim for the sky, you'll land on the treetop.
I don't know if you've ever heard something like that before, but it is true most of the time. So, when I say "progress through perfection," I mean "aim for the sky, so that worst-case scenario, you'll land on the treetop."
That, to me, sums up this concept, but of course, just like with everything else, it’s not just about us and the efforts we make. We need God to bless our efforts, and His grace to be able to achieve anything remotely resembling progress, not to talk more of perfection.
Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
