Draw people nearer (part II): Approach as a friend

"To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law, I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law, I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." (1 Cor. 9:20-22)

This is a continuation of what we talked about in the last post about drawing people closer to God. I think the portion above is self-explanatory, but a quick summary. Paul is saying that he had to relate on the same level as the people he was preaching to for them to believe. It's just like how a lot of people would rather have help from a (knowledgeable) student rather than a teacher. We have to approach people as friends, not as people who think they're better or more righteous, not in a condescending way. We approach with love, and when they see that love and God's goodness in your life, they will be touched and the Holy Spirit will do the rest in their hearts.

Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
