Don't Lose Your Opportunity

I remember one day I went to Walmart with my siblings, and on my way, I saw a beggar, but he didn't say anything to us, so I just walked past. When I was leaving Walmart, I saw the same guy outside the door, and he asked for some change, but I told him that I had none, even though I knew very well that I did. I kept walking and had actually separated some change to spare if I would ever see him again because I felt guilty. As it turns out, I had forgotten my purchase with the cashier, so I had to go back, and I was kind of happy about that because I figured the beggar would still be there; that I would get a chance to do over and give him the change I had spared. Well, he wasn't. I had lost my opportunity.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. - Galatians 6:10
This verse tells us that as we have opportunity, we should do good. That means immediately. Once we see a situation that we can be of help in, we should do good. Once we see somebody who needs our assistance, we should do good. Don't wait or you might just lose your opportunity like I did that day. You don't have to wait until you’re earning six figures to give money to those who need it. That dress at the store is not more important than somebody's only meal for the day. We can't wait till all our needs are met before we start thinking about the needs of others. After all, aren't we all just a black hole of need?
In a similar manner, you don't have to wait till God has answered all of your prayers before you pray for somebody else. Try to remember that other people also need help, not just you, and in any way that you can assist, go ahead and do so. In 1 John 3:18, we were called to love in action and not just words.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Saying, “I love you,” is not enough. Do you love that person when you’re kneeling before God in prayer? Do you love that person when you see that they're struggling with work or school? Do you love that person when you see that their needs seem to be more urgent than your wants? Do you love that person when you have the opportunity to do so practically? We are entering into the season of giving, you know, the time we all exchange presents. Instead of the status quo, how about you remember to give to somebody who can't give you a present in return, and it doesn't have to be something wrapped in a box. It can be in the form of rendering services to someone in need of them. Whatever it is, don't lose your opportunity.
Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
