Building Habits

Being a Christian is more than just professing it, but our lives need to demonstrate it as well. So, it is important to build habits that help us grow in our faith, bring us closer to God, and shine His light.
We are creatures of rhythm, physiologically and socially, so it is helpful to choose something you can do periodically in a structured manner and commit to it. It can be praying in the morning and/or before bed, having a set time to study the Word or worship, etc.
Just saying that you want to pray more often or spend more time with God isn't usually very effective, because there are constantly so many distractions all around us (including things we just have to do, like school or work). Those are typically more tangible: hard deadlines, tests approaching, and we spend so much time reacting to them because it's our physical reality. You might find yourself at the end of the day, tired and worn out, realizing that you didn't read your Bible today like you said you would yesterday; you didn't talk to your friend about God because you were studying together. However, the fact that we can't see spiritual things doesn't make it any less a reality. It is in fact an even more important reality because your eternal destiny and that of others are at stake here, versus probably less than 100 years. I'm sure we have all experienced something like this, even if it's not regarding your spiritual life. So, I encourage you today to set a time that no matter what happens, you will give to God.
There's a famous quote that I really like. There are so many variations that different people claim as theirs, but here's the gist:
Be careful of your thoughts, they become your words; Be careful of your words, they become your actions; Be careful of your actions, they become your habits; Be careful of your habits, they become your character; Be careful of your character, it becomes your destiny.
Build that habit today, and you'll see how much it'll impact your character. Your destiny depends on it.
Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
