A Prayer for Change

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."
Psalms 19:14 RSV
I don't know about you, but that to me is a pretty serious statement. Read it again. The choice of words in this verse is very important. David is not saying to us, "make your words and your thoughts pleasing to God." He, and we too, are praying to God to make our words and thoughts pleasing to Himself.
One of two things can happen after praying this type of prayer: nothing, or a lot of things. If you don't mean it, then it'll be like countless other statements we make, but if you mean this prayer, get ready for a roller coaster because God will answer you.
When God wants to change us, He won't just snap His fingers or speak a word and we'll wake up the next day a different person. Just like with many precious metals, we have to go through the furnace to come out refined. So after you pray Psalms 19:14, and things start happening that test your faith or your relationship with God, do not fear. Cling on to God, and to the hope that he will bring you out refined. When you find yourself having to cut off friends, old habits, things you used to take comfort or find pleasure in, remember that you will come out closer to who God wants you to be. May the words of our mouths, and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, we pray O Lord!
Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
