A life of Luxury II - God Prays for Us

And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Romans 8:27

Umm… the Spirit of God searches our hearts? Invasion of privacy alert!

No one likes someone else going through their stuff, especially when it's something that they don't want to share. Going through someone's heart is like going through a diary that they recorded every single thing in, and if you’re like me you don't keep diaries because you don't want people going through them! So, knowing that someone can go through my heart is kind of off-putting, but in a way, it's also a relief. I get tired of keeping secrets, and it feels good to know that there's somebody I don't have to hide things from because they already know everything. The best part is, at least you know that the person going through your heart is not doing it to dig up dirt on you to humiliate or embarrass you. He has your best interest at heart!

Because the Spirit searches our hearts, He knows exactly what it is that we want. He knows our deepest heart desires, even the ones we don't even realize by ourselves, and because He is the Holy Spirit of God, He also knows God's will and God's desires more than we ever could. This verse tells us that this same Spirit of God intercedes for us. The dictionary definition of intercession is, “the action of saying a prayer on behalf of another person.” So, basically, God prays for us. God prays for us! God, the maker of the universe, who existed before existence, prays for me and prays for you. Think about that.

The reason why this is so important is that we don't know how to pray for ourselves. We know the things we want most of the time and just pray for those things. But the Holy Spirit knows the things we want, He knows the things we need, and prays for us in accordance with the will of God. Isn't that awesome? Sincerely, thank you Lord for that, because I try to pray according to the will of God, but I end up just praying for what I want and then adding a vague statement at the end like, “let your will be done,” but the spirit knows God's will and prays for me according to it. If this is not luxury, I don’t know what else is.

Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
