A Life of Luxury

I think I have really underestimated the entire chapter that is Psalms 23, and these two verses especially. I think a lot of us have too. It’s just that we recite it a lot without really taking the time to reflect on what it actually means, but recently, God gave me a new revelation. This passage is on a whole new level if you really think about it.

Verse 4 says,

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You can walk through the darkest valley with just enough lack of fear to barely get through, as in you’re on edge the whole time and you can’t wait till you're out, but this verse is talking about cruising. You are being comforted like you're in your own little bubble with God, so what's on the outside doesn't faze you at all, no matter how dark your darkest valley is.

Verse 5 says,

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

It's a similar deal like we saw with verse 4. It's not talking about hiding from your enemies, so they can't reach you, or being locked in some secret fortress. No. You are literally enjoying a feast right before their faces, yet they can't touch you. God is with you; God is with me. Why should I fear when he that is in me is greater than he that is in the world? I don’t know about you, but that is a true life of luxury to me.

I hope these verses and this interpretation encourage you to dig a little deeper into ‘everyday scriptures’ that you may or may not have become insensitive to. Peace and love of Christ be with you all.
