Ad Majórem Dei Glóriam
For the greater glory of God
It's common knowledge that we were created to glorify God, and that we are called to do so in everything we do. In 1 Corinthians 10:31, the bible even tells us that when we eat or drink, we should do it to the glory of God! How do you eat to the glory of God?!!!
Okay, time for some context. In this chapter, Paul talks about a whole lot of things. The first part (verses 1-13) is basically a big warning to not follow the paths of the Old testament Israelites who defiled and angered God, and also to not fall into temptation. The second part (14-22) talks about avoiding idolatory. Unlike what many of us think, idolatory is not so far fetched, you don't have to literally be bowing down to a graven image. Idolatory is as simple as putting something as basic a need as food above God, even if it is indeliberately. And I guess that's why we fast, to show God, and more importantly, remind ourselves that our dependence on God is much more important than our so called "basic need."
Now, back to what we were talking about before, how do you eat AMDG?
Insert pause here: "Please note that I am not laying down any rules over here, just giving my understanding of the verse."
I guess one way to do so is to be thankful first, and to acknowledge thay something so ordinary is actually a product of God's amazing power, the mechanism of chewing, the digestion of food, being in good enough health to actually eat, and of course, having the food to eat, no matter how little.
Please feel free to comment other ways you think we can do simple things to the greater glory of God. Peace and love of Christ be with you all!
